Home Staging

Posted on: February 17th, 2014 by Kris Sherry

If you have made the decision to put your home up for sale, you naturally want to get the most money in the shortest time frame, with the least hassle.  In today’s competitive market, you need all the edge you can get to accomplish this.

Our home is our castle and in most cases we are very comfortable with the way it is decorated and furnished.  This is where Home Stagers and good Realtors® excel – they look at your home as a stranger, without attachments to anything – similar to the way a prospective buyer would view your home.

Staging a home is different from decorating a home. The purpose of staging, unlike decorating, is to present your property as ideal for the consumer. Highlighting the home’s best features, downplaying its drawbacks, and creating a vision of the lifestyle the prospective buyer will have in their new home.

  • The cost to stage your home is minimal compared to the costs of keeping a house on the market for long periods of time and having to reduce your asking price
  • A home that has been staged properly will almost always sells faster than a home that has not been staged
  • Most sellers cannot view their home objectively because they are emotionally attached.  Having an objective professional can transform your home more effectively
  • Very few homebuyers can visualize the potential of a home.  Without proper staging, the advantages of your home may get overlooked or left to the buyer’s imagination
  • Leaving your home in “as is” condition may help to sell your competition.  Today’s home buyers have high expectations, and you want every advantage you can get – staging your home is an important plus

Making a good first impression is critical.  Once your home is on the market, you must no longer think of it as your home.  Neutralize and depersonalize so that prospective buyers can visualize the house as their own.

I work with some very talented people who do this for a living – so give me a call if you’d like some help with this.
